The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. Romans 8: 26.
Sunday we hear another passage from the middle of Matthew (chapter 13). Jesus tells his disciples short stories about the new world that he has ushered into the ordinary world of time and space. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in field…like yeast mixed with flour…like a net thrown into the sea… Then he asks his disciples if they understand. They answer yes. We might not understand, but we can still give thanks and pray in our customary way, and that might be the begining of our spiritual understanding.
