October weeks after Pentecost

We know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you. 1 Thessalonians 1:4

In these latter weeks of Pentecost I have been preaching on the second reading for each Sunday. We have looked at Paul’s letter to the Romans, his letter to Philippians, and, starting Sunday, his first letter to the Thessalonians. Paul delivered the Christian faith to the world. When Martin Luther began his reform of the Christian church, he leaned heavily on Paul. On Sunday Paul helps us think about a choice as the beginning of every relationship of love, as the beginning of faith, the beginning of life.

I see you. I choose you. I give myself to you.

In our faith lives, baptism is the sign of being chosen by God. Faith accepts that we have been chosen and loved by God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The choir meets at 8:45 am.

Family Promise training for our young people during the Faith Formation hour.

Family Promise host weeks begin next Sunday, October 29.

Parents, take a moment to make a choice on the Doodle poll about the Christmas program. The link was sent in an email last week.

Whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

These good words from the second lesson for Sunday show a Christian orientation to the world. Do good things. Try to fill your lives with good things. Good things belong to God.  And from God comes the gospel–the good word–of Christ.

Sunday we will hear more from Paul’s excellent and inspiring encouragement to the Philippians, and to us.

The choir meets at 8:45.

Acolyte training for 6th graders during the faith-formation hour. Libby Jonczyk and Milly Engberg will conduct the training. Current acolytes will attend the training as well.

Confirmation students meet back at Peace at 1 pm. Wear work clothes for garden harvesting and clean-up. Bring your catechism.

Moms and children of Florence House in Worcester will be here Sunday afternoon at 1 pm for an art activity in the Beehive Studio.

Jordan Mueller and the council are gathering thoughts and ideas about improving our website. If you have thoughts about that, speak to Jordan.

Third Thursday lunch this Thursday, October 19 at 12 noon.
